Next Steps After Loss

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this service only for Alabama?

No. While I specialize in Alabama probate, I help families in any state who need clear, plain-English guidance. Every state has its own probate rules, so I create a personalized packet and plan based on the laws and requirements of the state where your loved one lived. If you need help outside Alabama, just email me at support@NextStepsAfterLoss.com, and I’ll put together a state-specific next-steps guide for your situation.

Do you replace a probate lawyer?

No. I am not acting as your attorney, and I cannot provide you with legal advice. Many families use this service if they are struggling financially, before or alongside a lawyer, so they can ask better questions and stay organized.

What if we already have a lawyer?

Great. I can help you understand the process, keep track of deadlines, and handle communication with family, creditors, and others so you’re not relying on your attorney for every small question.

What if there’s no will?

That’s very common. We’ll talk through what “intestate” (no-will) probate usually looks like and what that might mean for heirs, the house, and other assets.

What if my family is fighting?

I have unique skills that will give us the best shot possible to mend torn relationships if it’s possible. I can’t resolve every family conflict, but I can help you understand what the court prioritizes, what’s driven by emotion, and how to communicate more effectively about the plan.
