For families who want a guide for the journey and a probate attorney handling the court side. Probate Attorneys are very busy, so they will handle the court side and provide you with an idea of what’s needed, but in many cases, they won’t have time to give you step-by-step instructions. However, there are many stories of families feeling lost, even though they have an attorney. Next Steps After Loss keeps you on track from the start of the probate process until the estate is closed with the state.
Some families don’t just want a one-time call. They want someone to walk alongside them for the next few months and make sure a lawyer is handling the actual court filings.
The Full Probate Companion + Attorney Option is for families who have Trusts and or more difficult family matters (Major infighting within the family) to navigate:
- A human guide to keep them organized and supported, and
- A vetted Alabama probate attorney to handle the legal work.
What my role is
In this option, I act as your non-legal probate companion:
- Help you gather and organize the information and documents your attorney will need.
- Translate “legalese” into plain English so you understand what’s happening.
- Help you manage communication with family, creditors, realtor, and others.
- Keep your timeline, tasks, and deadlines visible so nothing slips through the cracks.
What the attorney’s role is
A separate probate attorney:
- Advises you on the law.
- Files the necessary documents with the court.
- Represents you in the probate case.
You hire and pay the attorney directly. I do not act as your lawyer and do not share in the attorney’s legal fees.
Who this is for
- Estates with more complexity (multiple heirs, no will, higher-value property, conflict).
- Families who want hand-holding, not just a one-time conversation.
- People who know they want a lawyer but also want someone who can “speak human” and help with the non-legal chaos.
Pricing
The companion fee for this higher-touch option typically starts at around $697 for the first 60–90 days of support, depending on the complexity.
Attorney fees are separate and are set and billed by the attorney you hire.
